Travel is Critical to the Mission in Spain

30% of church members
live in 14 different cities
outside of the three congregational cities
of Madrid, Seville, Cartagena

Pastors’ travel is critical to serving the members
of the Lutheran Church in Spain (IELE), and to
reach out to new seekers with the Gospel

We need your help to reach these people!

Traveling Pastors bring gifts of Worship, Sacraments, Family, Fellowship

Thanks be to God that He has provided 5 pastors, 3 full time and 2 part time, who are able to go to these outlying areas. Serving our brothers and sisters in Christ with the Divine Service, in-person Bible study and Catechesis, and resources such as family devotions and books for the children is integral to the faith life of these saints.
Pastors choose economical means of travel—mainly personal car, bus, or train. They are often able to stay in member’s homes to help reduce costs. Visits to new people who are interested in learning more about Lutheranism are tied with trips to visit members, thus maximizing the impact of travel dollars.

The foundation of IELE is built on Word and Sacrament ministry. Ongoing visitation and catechesis are focal points of IELE’s Strategic Plan. As well, the emphasis on outreach is tied to developing points of contact between congregation sites and new seekers. Traveling Pastors share the Gospel with new contacts and build bridges to other members and worship sites (2019 Strategic Plan, Priorities 1B and 1C).

FORO/PROJECT funds are needed for travel expenses, especially for those of the local Spanish pastors. Travel costs are NOT covered under the two LCMS Missionaries’ Network of Support (NSM).
