News from the Group Home
June 2020

Hello to all of you! We are thankful that the kids are strong and healthy! Between mid-March and now, the kids have been under quarantine and inside the house. They have missed their normal routines of school, church, work, and other activities in the community, but they are doing great.  So, we are also thankful that little by little things are returning to normal. Here is what we have been up to!

FRANCIS just finished his school year at Santiago Deaf School only the last few months he had home school.  Quarantine kept him inside and working on reading and writing. During his free time he played lots of games and shot hoops. Francis, unlike most of us, loves wearing a mask and makes sure you don’t leave home without it!

Even though he doesn’t like being “in” the devotion, RANDY watches and listens from a close distance.  Since Randy does best one-on-one, Rafael, a pastoral student at our seminary, hung out with Randy in the hallway after devotions  and worked on the learning activity.  Looks like they had fun!

ESTEFANI has enjoyed the quarantine down-time. She got a long break from working at the school as Moisés’ shadow, but she still had some of her own school work to do.  She wore out her UNO cards these past months and would have liked to have worn out the TV, but we worked to keep the monotony down with other constructive activities!  She has enjoyed helping narrate and act in Bible stories we have for devotions.

RAMONA is a great quarantine buddy especially if you like puzzles, dancing, laughing, and rockin’ out with your headphones. Ramona just loves to love on people, especially Marisol, our group home director, who we call, “Mama”. May 31st was Mother’s Day in the DR and we celebrated Marisol and our 4 care-giving aunts who listen, teach, praise, protect and show the kids Jesus’ love everyday!

When the barber is closed, out come the clippers! Everyone got their home hair cut, but MOISES proved himself to be the bravest and craziest by letting Francis shave his head. He obviously knows there is nothing to fear when you’ve got Jesus!

JUNIOR worked this year at the school as the doorman, helping to tend to visitors and little ones. He always greets you with a smile.  While Junior is an exemplary rule-follower, he does have a goofy side which came out with the Batman shades, courtesy of Samaritan’s Purse Christmas boxes, which came just in time for Easter and quarantine!

Thank you for your prayers and support!
