This Summer, we were blessed to have Karen, a retired music teacher, provide guitar lessons twice a week to the kids of the congregation in Ponce. We met Karen several years back through our ESL classes and have become friends over the years. She had the opportunity this Summer to teach not only guitar but parts of the church service with the hope that the kids will be able to lead the music in the future.
We give thanks to God for the congregation, Cordero de Dios, in Bayamón, as they continue to receive new people into their church family. Over the Summer, many new faces have appeared through the church doors. As always, the Holy Spirit is working in and through His people to share the Gospel and bring them into the community of believers. Some people have come through internet searches and finding the mission’s website, some via instagram, some through personal invitation, some through simply looking up “LCMS Puerto Rico” on google. The Word never returns empty (Isaiah 55:11) and we rejoice in that promise!
One of the last areas of the CARD house to be fixed from the fire in January of 2023 was the glass block walls. Finding the glass blocks and finding the people who were able to install it took a very long time, but in God’s time, it was completed and we are grateful to have this space back again in the mercy house!
Over the last two months the congregation hosted “Family Days” as a way to gather in fellowship over the Summer. Friends of the congregation led games and crafts and made some wonderful food.
Since moving Sunday services to the morning, we have had the opportunity for more fellowship and Bible study. After Service the congregation gathers around for a Bible study (this Summer we worked through Ruth and Colossians), and then after, eat lunch together. Each Sunday someone brings something to share and everyone pitches in to cook or prepare the food. It’s been a wonderful time to come together as a church family.
All the congregations this Summer received the help and support of two short term teams. One from St. John’s in Arnold, MO and another from St. Paul in Lakeland, FL. Both teams were made up of mostly high school youth. We had an awesome time working on church projects as well as outreach events! We are very thankful for their service and the fellowship that we shared together!
Blessed to have these visitors come and see us! If you are in Puerto Rico, come to one of our services. You can find the locations here. All services begin at 10AM on Sunday.
We are tremendously thankful for our Mission Senders. They give us the blessing of continuous prayer, encouragement and financial support. If you are interested in supporting in this way, click here and here.
If you enjoy reading in Spanish, the team and church members have put together a Daily Prayer (Oración Diaria) page that updates between morning and evening for daily prayer and Bible readings. Click here to read more!
