McMiller (Italy) Update – August 2022

MCMILLERS IN ITALY!

         July/August Newsletter

Praise the Lord, Pastor Tyler McMiller was blessed to celebrate his first confirmation. On July 7th we rejoiced as Giovanni Caputo became a member of the Confessional Lutheran Church of Italy. We were honored to share the occasion with Dr. David Preus (LCMS missionary/pastor in Romania) and a group of American tourists in Rome led by Pastor Bryan Wolfmueller. This was especially fitting, since Giovanni first learned about our Church through the online videos of Pastor Wolfmueller. To God be the glory!

The group of tourists continued their trip across Italy to Padova. Of course, that is where we have a small mission start and Luiz Lange studying to be a pastor. We were able to rent a small hotel meeting room for the Divine Service.

As part of their formation, the men studying to be pastors in Italy began a Tuesday evening Bible Study. The topic of the study is the letter of St. Paul to Titus. This time of fellowship is also an excellent means of outreach. Last week, Pastor McMiller reached another milestone in his study of Italian as he was able to lead the whole Bible Study for an hour and half. Praise the Lord!

As Pastor McMiller travels across the peninsula, visiting our confirmed members and contacts (Rome, Padova, Florence, Alessandria…), the McMillers added another location on the map of their ministry in Italy. A few months ago we were contacted by a member of the Confessional Lutheran Church of Chile that had moved to Italy many years ago- Genesis and her husband Stefano. After many faithful weeks of participation in our Sunday Zoom Service, the McMiller family made the trip to Northern Italy (Piacenza) to give them the Lord’s Supper. It was a great occasion to meet and witness to many of their Spanish speaking friends and neighbors. To God alone be the glory! Amen.

Pastor Tyler McMiller isn’t called to Italy by himself… the rest of the McMiller family (at their own pace) are also learning Italian for their own vocations in the Confessional Lutheran Church of Italy. Last week Yanela finished three weeks of introductory Italian (2 hours a day) over Zoom with a woman named Claudia.
