Erin Mackenzie serves the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as a missionary in the Dominican Republic. In this role, she coordinates the short-term team strategy for the LCMS Latin America and the Caribbean regional mission team and its local partners. She develops policies and priorities for short-term mission teams, as well as assists in the recruitment, placement and support of short-term volunteer missionaries. Erin also recruits, trains and supervises service coordinators or local partners to lead short-term mission teams. Throughout her ministry work, she seeks to build strong relationships with local partners and individuals in the community to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them, the entire country and the region.
Erin was born in St. Louis, where her home congregation of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (Des Peres) is located. She graduated with honors from Drury University, Springfield, Mo., with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish. She also studied abroad at the Universidad de Granada, Granada, Spain. Prior to her work in the Dominican Republic, Erin worked as a marketing manager at Concordia Publishing House. She also served as an LCMS missionary at Ysleta Lutheran Mission Human Care in El Paso, Texas, for three years (2009-2011). In addition, Erin has participated in several short-term mission teams within the Latin America region. Erin’s hobbies include reading, running, playing Scrabble and trying new recipes.
Pray for Erin as she serves in the Dominican Republic. Ask God to give her patience as she transitions to life abroad. Pray that she is effective in building relationships with local partners and others in the community. Give thanks to God for the faithful service of the churches and organizations that currently send LCMS short-term teams to Latin America. Ask God to give discernment to those groups that are considering this option. Let us give thanks that Erin is serving God’s children in this part of the world.
