Mission Moments – Africa

Young Family News   Spring 2022

Volunteer opportunities slowly opening up

We praise God that many countries have opened boarders. COVID numbers are being held by vaccines and good safety practices, and volunteers are able to travel to African countries to serve in person again. We realize that things can change at any time, but currently, we are able to move ahead with caution.

Rev Jacob Mueller from Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Emma, MO was able to go to Uganda after a couple years. The seminary students were happy to see him again. He taught an intensive course on Romans at the Lutheran Church of Uganda Seminary. The students were happy to receive the Book of Concord to help with their studies.

As God continues to put opportunities before us, we are still in need of partners to help support the ongoing ministry. Please consider joining us. Gifts can be given securely online through the LCMS website at www.lcms.org/YOUNG

This work can’t be done without each of you.

LWML Partnerships

Krista was able to attend her very first Lutheran Woman Missionary League (LWML) Conference in Eudmond, OK.  She meet many new friends and learned about the amazing work the LWML  OK District does in supporting the work around the world. Krista also connected with Rev and Roz Burger, longtime friends of her parents, and led a presentation about the work in Africa at their church in Claremore, OK.

Missionary Children’s Program

In March the missionaries serving the Africa region were able to meet together for learning and growth. The team met in Egypt as it was a good location for missionaries to meet.
The adult program was run by Ambassadors of Reconciliation, a Recognized Service Organization (RSO) of the LCMS. Dwight Schettler led the group through scripture and catechism connections to help with conflict resolution and reconciliation through Christ.
While the adults were in sessions, the children also learned about Biblical peace making and had some fun along the way. Volunteers Tara Wolf, Michelle Swain Clauberg, and Jolene Siebarth planned a wonderful week for the children and youth. They even brought goodies for an Easter egg hunt which was a highlight.

Krista Young, DCE — Partnership Coordinator for LCMS Africa Region, and Tara Wolf, DCE — volunteer with LCMS International Mission and Director of Next Generations Ministries at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ft. Collins, Colorado, join KFUO’s Coffee Hour to talk about how volunteers serve with LCMS International Mission,

Tara’s story of volunteering, how she served and what she learned, where the current needs are for volunteers, and how to get involved. Listen now: https://www.kfuo.org/…/coffee-hour-033022-volunteering…/
