Dear Partners in Mission,
Two weeks ago today, Joyce and I were in Accra, Ghana and received a phone call from LCMS International Mission advising us to return to the United States because of the Corona Virus. We made contact with the American Embassy and were on a special flight to Washington DC the next morning. We are grateful for safe flights all the way to Michigan. Our days of ‘quarantine’ are almost finished. Of course, we will still be on ‘lock down’! And we are grateful for a safe place to stay.
Joyce and I continue to work full time. I am maintaining a lot of communications with pastors in Ghana through WhatsApp and am preparing some “distance education” courses for this unusual time when we people are unable to come together. Joyce is keeping up with accounting dynamics for all of our missionaries – for those who have temporarily returned to the USA like us and for those who have stayed in Africa.
One of our concerns for Ghana is that a large percentage of the people do not have bathrooms in their own homes and depend on neighborhood facilities for their daily needs. This means that social distancing is not very feasible. We are praying that the virus doesn’t spread there like it has here. We understand it is becoming increasingly difficult to get food in the larger cities.
We hope you are well and safe. And we hope you are keeping connected to God’s Word. We are amazed by the great things LCMS pastors are doing to keep connected to God’s people!
Thank you for your prayers for us and for God’s Work in Ghana, around the world and in your own communities!

May God be with you during these precious days of Holy Week!
