Rev. Dr. Charles and Connie Cortright serve the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as career missionaries in the Eurasia region based out of St. Petersburg, Russia. In this role, Charles serves as this region’s chaplain, providing pastoral care to the other LCMS personnel serving in this part of the world. Through Word and Sacrament ministry, he supports and cares for these individuals and their families as they live out their lives on a daily basis. Charles also serves as a pastoral mentor to Romanian theology students, works among the Romanian diaspora in Italy and helps plant churches in Romania and Italy.
Charles was born in New York. He calls Lutheran Memorial Chapel and University Center, Shorewood, Wis., his home congregation. He received a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern College, Watertown, Wis. (now incorporated with Martin Luther College, New Ulm, Minn.); his Master of Divinity from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon; and his doctorate (Ph.D.) degree in historical theology from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wis. Before coming to the LCMS, Charles served as a pastor at Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) congregations in California and New Jersey. He also taught theology at Wisconsin Lutheran College, Milwaukee. Charles also participated in mission trips to Ukraine in 1996 and 2002.
Connie was born in New London, Wis. She also calls Lutheran Memorial Chapel and University Center, Shorewood, Wis., her home congregation. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Martin Luther College, New Ulm, Minn. Before serving in Eurasia, she worked as an elementary school teacher, librarian and office coordinator. In her free time, she enjoys writing historical fiction books. Charles and Connie have four grown children.
Please pray for Charles and Connie as they serve in the Eurasia region. Ask God to strengthen both of them as they transition to life and ministry in this region, learning a new language and culture. Ask God to use them daily to lovingly minister to the local people of Eurasia. Pray, too, for the LCMS personnel serving in this region with them that they might find love and mercy in the Word and Sacrament ministry that Charles shares with them. Ask God to keep Charles and Connie safe as they travel to build their support network. Pray for the hearts of people here in the United States who will partner with the Cortrights in prayer and financial support so they can participate in the Kingdom work with them. Let us give thanks that Charles and Connie are serving in this part of the world.
