Rev. Dr. Charles Cortright presents a theological paper at one of the most successful theological conferences planned and held in our Eurasia region.
“Damnamus” Theological Conference
On April 8, I traveled to Wittenberg, Germany with Bishop Marion Čop, Rev. David Jurech and Manager Ján Maca, all from the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in the Czech Republic (ECAVvČR), to help plan a theological conference held there in May.
On May 13-15, we were thrilled to have nearly 60 people attend the conference. Pastors and guests from Romania, Slovakia, Silesia (Czech and Polish part), Moravia (Czech Republic), Bohemia (Czech Republic), Germany, Lithuania, Latvia and Russia filled the space at Colleg Wittenburg and the Old Latin School. The chapel in the Old Latin School was also used for Matins and Vespers each day during the conference.
Our Eurasia region sponsored the theological conference, with a theme of “Damnamus.” Lecturers included Rev. Dr. Armin Wenz, from our German partner church (SELK); Rev. Dr. Charles Cortright, LCMS missionary teaching at the ELCIR seminary in Koltushi, Russia; Prof. John Pless, serving at Concordia Theological Seminary Fort Wayne (CTSFW); and Rev. Dr. Pavel Roubík, ECAVvČR. Theological papers were presented in English or Czech, with translations simultaneously presented on a large screen behind the lecturer.
LCMS Eurasia regional director, Rev. James Krikava, described it as “the most successful theological conference in our region to date.”

This month, I am grateful for the beautiful country around me, and all that God provides for us:
“The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein.”
Psalm 24:1 (ESV)
