Serving the Lord in Latin America

Peru and Mexico FOROs

FOROs in April and May kicked off a busy season of church-partner meetings and graduations around Latin America. A FORO is a gathering during which local church leaders meet with partners to discuss and plan future work to further the Gospel. John worked with LCMS regional leadership to prepare next year’s budgets for work in Peru and Mexico. In this photo, three of our fellow missionaries are in Mexico for the FORO and deaconess students’ graduation. (Photo: Johanna Heidorn)

Theological Symposium at the DR Seminary

The fifth annual symposium was held May 24–27 at Seminario Concordia El Reformador here in the Dominican Republic. Pastors and church leaders from seventeen Latin American countries gathered to learn about the new Spanish-language hymnal, build relationships with one another, and worship our Lord together. John was an integral part of planning the symposium and managing business affairs when many of the mission’s partners were in town. (Photo: Johanna Heidorn)

Graduations around Latin America

During May and June, three pastoral students and 105 deaconess students in Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic will be graduating from seminary programs. Here are the students who graduated in the DR. Praise God for raising up so many faithful workers to teach and serve His people all around Latin America! (Photo: Johanna Heidorn)

5 Minutes with a Missionary Podcasts

LCMS International Mission started a new podcast series that provides a window into missionary life. Take a listen to hear from missionaries all around the world about the joys and challenges they’ve experienced in the places God has called them to serve.

Arrival of New Missionary Family, the Benevenutis

We are excited to welcome the Benevenuti family to the Dominican Republic for a summer of missionary orientation. The Benevenutis are from Brazil and will be going to Jamaica, where Pastor Arthur will serve alongside Pastor Obot Ite to preach, teach, and show mercy to the saints in the city of Kingston. John has been working with the Benevenutis on the financial and logistical aspects of their move. Even Sophie helped by going to the grocery store with Mommy and providing entertainment as we assembled furniture in the house the Benevenutis will be staying in during their time in the DR. Family Visit for Easter

John’s parents came down to see us for Easter. Sophie loved getting special time with Grandma and Grandpa, and Mommy and Daddy enjoyed their company and their help with Sophie.

Article from Erica: “As a Christian, Can I Have It All?”

Erica had the honor of publishing an article about the struggle of balancing one’s various vocations and how this is something we will all struggle with until Jesus comes again. Read the article here.

  • Pray for the new pastors and deaconesses, that God may use them according to His will to bring new people into His flock.
  • Pray for healing for everyone with COVID-19 as the mission community experiences a new wave of infections.
  • Pray for the Benevenuti family in their time of transition.
  • Pray for peace in Ukraine.
