News from the Schlund Family serving the Lord in Mexico City

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! Welcome to our newsletter. We would love to keep you informed about God’s work in Mexico. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Andrew at

Deaconess Conference
Things have been busy for us in Mexico the past couple of months! There’s been a lot of traveling, teaching, and even a move across town so we can be closer to our church. In December, Andrew attended a deaconess conference in Matamoros. Deaconess Danelle Putnam led the conference with the theme “Suffering, The Cross, and Mercy”.

In November, Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Harlingen Texas hosted the Mexican Foro. It was a great opportunity for pastors from both sides of the border to discuss ministry ideas together.

Bethalto Visit

In January, we went to St. Louis while Andrew took exams for his Masters at the Seminary. While there, we visited Zion Lutheran in Bethalto, IL to share stories about our work in Mexico. Thank you, Zion, for your prayers, encouragement, and support!

Book Donation

While in St. Louis, we received a donation of books from Peace Lutheran Church in Great Falls, MT, where Andrew’s dad is pastor. We are distributing the books across the churches in Mexico for Sunday Schools and family ministries. Thank you, Peace, for your generous gift! Pictured below is the bilingual Sunday School class we started at Buen Pastor this past fall.

Andrew has been teaching courses for the seminary in the Dominican Republic.  This fall he taught Greek, and now he is teaching a class on using the catechism. Courses are taught online with a video conference.

We had a wonderful Christmas season here in Mexico City. Our Posada celebration at Buen Pastor included several piñatas, which Margaret loved. We had a Christmas Eve candlelight service at Buen Pastor. San Pedro hosted a Christmas Day service and meal.

La Biblia en Español

¡Cantemos al Señor un cántico nuevo
por las proezas que ha realizado!
¡Con su diestra, con su santo brazo,
ha alcanzado la victoria!
Salmos 33:5

Oh sing to the Lord a new song,
for he has done marvelous things!
His right hand and his holy arm
have worked salvation for him.
Psalm 33:5

Prayer Requests

For the pastors in Mexico as they minister to their congregations
Thanksgiving for safe travels for Andrew’s class and time spent with friends and family
For all the women in Mexico and across the Latin American region who are studying to be deaconesses
For the missionaries and first responders in Puerto Rico as they tend to people’s physical and spiritual needs amidst the earthquakes
For the members of Buen Pastor, San Pedro, and San Pablo in their work to spread the Gospel

We are very thankful for your prayers and support. God’s richest blessings to all of you in your service of the kingdom.

In Christ,
Andrew, Kelsey, Charlotte, and Margaret Schlund
