November 2019 Update

Ponce Center Purchased

Many months of searching, hard work and diligence on the part of our Puerto Rico missionaries led, on November 15, to the purchase of a Disaster Response and Ministry Center campus in downtown Ponce. Many of our partners remember visiting the doctor’s office south of centro in Ponce which we almost acquired in the spring. The new center is not far away, and consists of two main buildings plus a parking lot next door. You can see a picture below.

Worship services will be held in a renovated space in the middle facility starting in December. That same space will be used for on-site workshops and conversations related to disaster recovery and response. The plan is to dedicate the facility officially at our next FORO meeting in March 2020. At that time we will present plans and needs for further renovation of the campus.

Fall 2019 Meeting

Almost two dozen long time and prospective FORO partners met together in Orlando, Florida October 10-11 at the offices of the LCMS Florida-Georgia District (see picture above). It was a chance to hear presentations from most of our missionaries on the field. Rev. Anthony DiLiberto presented on the church planting work in Mayaguez. Rev. Gustavo Arturo Maita and Mr. William Torres talked about the on-going disaster response work on the island. Rev. James and Deaconess Christel Neuendorf presented witness and mercy work in Ponce. Mr. James Krey and Mr. Blake Warren (regional business manager) walked through the finances of the mission, and Rev. Charles St-Onge (area facilitator) gave an update on the overall strategic plan.
