Community Health Evangelism

Community Health Evangelism (CHE) is an organization that empowers and equips God’s people to reach out to their communities with the love of Jesus. The training focuses on interactive lessons that encourage the participants to get involved. The goal is for the members of the community to solve the problems they have identified using their own resources. The types of lessons vary from health and disease prevention, agriculture, financial and overall wellness.

Missionary Stephanie Schulte (RN) is a trainer for this organization and has led many seminars on health and wellness.  Stephanie was able to lead a “Training of Trainers” event online. Across the world several of our missionary collogues “Zoomed” in for 30 hours of training in five weeks. We are proud to say Krista is now a CHE Trainer.

As a certified trainer, Krista will be able to work with church leaders to identify people in the community who have a passion for God and their neighbors. These people can be trained to be CHE volunteers.  A CHE trainer can go into homes of their neighbors to share the love of Jesus, and information about health and wellness.  Through this type of visitation and discipleship, churches can reach out to their neighbors and transform communities with the love of Jesus.  We are excited to see where God might use this opportunity to serve His people.

Pictured Above:  God’s people continue to share His love…

Top:  Rev. Davis Wowa, President of the Confessional Lutheran Church- Malawi Synod (CLCMS) baptizes children in rural congregations when he visits.

Left:  The Lutheran Church in Kenya (ELCK) continued to deliver food items to the vulnerable children who are part of the Project 24 children’s homes. Many of the children have returned to the boarding facilities in anticipation of schools opening again.

Right:  Universities in Kenya have reopened, so Seminary student Kelvin Phimbi, from Malawi (CLCMS) plants maize at his home farm before he leaves for Kenya to return to his pastoral studies.

Prayers and Praises:
How can we pray for you?  Please share with us your prayers and concerns so we can lift each other up in prayer.

  • We praise God for CHE and the opportunity to share the Gospel in new ways.
  • We pray for seminary students returning to continue their studies in many African countries, and for their families.
  • Pray for the Lutheran churches we are connected with to continue to reach out with the love and word of God.
  • We pray for the election processes in Tanzania, Ethiopia, and the USA.
  • Pray for strength and joy in ministry.
  • Please pray for saftey for Sydney, Grace, and Krista’s father Richard Adler as they travel here to Kenya for Christmas celebrations.
  • We give thanks for faithful partners who continue to pray for and encourage us.

Mission Education Corner:
When Helping Hurts

If you or your congregation are considering mercy work in your neighborhoods or mission trips to other places, I strongly recommend this book and/or video series.  As we show mercy and share the Gospel, it is imperative that we understand the long-lasting impact we are making – positive or negative.  When we don’t fully understand the context and culture of a situation or place, we can easily do more harm than good; even with great intentions. I strongly advise contacting LCMS International Missions office to connect with the local missionaries who know the language, who the key players are, understand the culture and can guide you to the very best way to move forward in cross cultural ministry that can be meaningful and give glory to God.
Please let Krista know if you are interested in more materials for training your outreach and mission committees. She is happy to help lead discussions or share materials as needed.
The book review states:   “Bestseller When Helping Hurts by Steve Corbet and Brian Fikkert has changed the way thousands of church and ministry leaders approach poverty. Designed to equip you to begin effectively helping low-income people, When Helping Hurts articulates a biblical framework for poverty alleviation. Learn how to walk with the materially poor in humble relationships instead of just providing them temporary handouts.  Ideal for:  Pastors, elders, deacons, lay leaders, volunteers, ministry leaders and staff.”  (Amazon book list.)
