Grace was attending Ridgewater College in Minnesota. She came to Nairobi in March for an LCMS short term mission trip – however, while here, the airports and borders closed. So, she finished her classes online and remains here with us in Kenya.
Sydney continues to live in Missouri. She finished her second year of university classes online and is moving into her summer housing and job plans. She recently turned 21 and we celebrated together across the miles.
Joel shifted to online teaching in March and has become more comfortable with Google Classroom, although he misses the uplifting interactions with his students. They will complete the year online.
Krista has had to shift her focus since there are no teams coming for mission trips. She has taken this time to strengthen the materials that help volunteers prepare for serving in East Africa. She also spent time finding new resources to share with volunteers. A highlight for her is a Youth Bible Study with the missionary teenagers that she started. They are studying Philippians and finding Joy in all circumstances.
The Office of International Mission Short-Term team in St. Louis hosted a new program called “Shadow a Missionary”, where young folks asked missionaries about their lives and experiences instead of spending time in the countries with them. Krista was able to participate as a Volunteer Coordinator in East Africa. It was fun to share about joys and challenges of serving overseas.
