Summer Newsletter

Hey Everybody! It’s been a while since I last sent out a newsletter. Thank you so much for your continued support and prayers. I know I just said it, but it really has been a while since I last wrote to all of you guys. Let’s get down to how the mission field has been. First and foremost God is good! Summer was an eventful time. There was graduation at Hong Kong International School. Taught American culture at a local school called Lui Ming Choi Lutheran College. There were some mission teams that come out to serve from Concordia University in Irvine. My sister gave birth to a healthy baby girl. Went back to the states. Met my newborn niece. Attended the wedding of two of my dearest friends from Concordia. Reconnect and prayed with some old friends. Brought a team to the National Youth Gathering in Minneapolis. Returned for Hong Kong. Church of All Nations had their VBS with a mission team from Redeemer Lutheran Fort Collins Colorado. Church of All Nations also hosted a local special needs VBS with a mission team from Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit of San Francisco. And now, the school year has started.

80 Students. 35 Volunteers. 1 Mission. The theme for VBS this year was Victory! We had a team of 4 people come from Colorado.

For the past few months there has unrest in the heart of Hong Kong. In June, there was a protest of almost 2 million people in a country of about 8 million people. Every weekend since there have been people going to the streets. Things get crazy. Sometimes it can be scary. I’ll let me words be few. Jesus, in the darkest nights may your light shine bright.

MISSION MOMENT: Something I enjoy doing in my day to day life is making eye contact with random people. While on the subway system or sitting at a restaurant, I scan my surrounds for anyone else who may be looking around. Once eye contact is established with each other, a slight nod follows. Sometimes people turn away, while others give a perplexed look. On the rare occasion I will have someone who engages in conversation. My last made friend is named Ralf. He is a AI-Robotics Engineer. For an hour we talked about his work and where the future is going. He is excited about the future of technology and the work he was doing. Ralf spoke about the advancements made in the last few years and ethical dilemmas his company has faced. Eventually we began to talk about my work and he mentioned how he grew up Christian but all that he knew or cared about Christianity were the good moral teaching that came from the Bible. Anyone could be a Christian if they just did good things. Hmmmm, lets take a pause right there Ralf. I am sorry but I must inform you, Christianity is not about doing good works. Let me tell you about Jesus and what he has done for you and me.
Sadly, it seemed as if it were his first time hearing about the depravity of sin in the world and the redemptive love Christ poured out for us on the cross. ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, he was receptive to hearing the Gospel of Christ’s sacrifice for him.

PRAYER REQUEST: Praise God for all the work that continues to go on during these tough times in Hong Kong. Prayers for the wisdom and discernment in the next steps as I wrap up my DCE internship and where God calls me from here. Prayers for Ralf as he wrestles with the new thought of what Christianity is. Prayers for the fall newsletter to come soon.
