APRIL NEWS FROM THE TAPE FAMILY

John, Erica, and Sophie
Serving the Lord in Latin America

Visit from Brazilian Church Leaders

March was a busy month, and it kicked off with a visit from leaders of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brazil (IELB). They met with LCMS leaders from our region and from St. Louis to discuss the ongoing partnership with Brazilian missionaries. As regional business manager, John worked on the operational aspects of that partnership and how Brazilian missionaries will be supported financially while serving alongside LCMS missionaries. (Photo: Johanna Heidorn)

John Joins Our Local Congregation’s Leadership

The Dominican Republic mission has three church plants around Santiago, and we worship at the one called Iglesia Luterana Cordero de Dios (Lamb of God Lutheran Church). John was asked to join the leadership team as assistant treasurer. Here he is with the church’s pastors, seminarians, and other lay leaders.

FOROs Held in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico

A FORO was held in the DR’s capital city of Santo Domingo March 11–13, during which local church leaders met with partners to discuss and plan future work to further the Gospel. John worked with LCMS regional leadership to prepare next year’s DR mission budget, which he is presenting in the photo above. The following weekend, John zipped over to Puerto Rico to present the budget for that area’s FORO. (Photo: Erin Mackenzie)

Short-Term Team Serves at Local Lutheran School

A team from Calvary Lutheran Church in Wray, CO, visited Santiago to teach Bible stories at the Lutheran school that shares a building with the seminary. Erica had the pleasure of translating for a couple days as the team taught about creation, the parable of the sower and the seed, and how Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross washes our sins away.

FAMILY UPDATES

Erica Publishes Article with CPH about Mission Life

Last month, Erica published an article called “Spiritual Warfare in the Mission Field,” in which she talks about the challenges our family has faced since moving overseas and how God still cared for us during those hard times. Read the article on the Concordia Publishing House blog.

Sophie, Queen of Cuteness

Sophie continues to learn new words in both English and Spanish. She loves giving hugs, reading books, and petting our dog, Zelley. Here she is telling Zelley that Zelley’s nose is called a nariz, which is the Spanish word for “nose.”

PRAYER REQUESTS

  • Pray for the partnership between the LCMS and the IELB and that God would use Brazilian pastors to share His life-giving Word.
  • Pray for continued growth of the DR and Puerto Rico churches.
  • Pray that God will nurture the seeds of faith He planted in the children visited by the short-term team.
  • Pray for the Jaseph family, who arrived in the DR for orientation and will soon serve in Uruguay.
  • Give thanks for the first-ever Lutheran Spanish hymnals arriving, and pray that they may be a blessing for Lutherans all around Latin America.
  • Pray for peace in Ukraine.
  • Give thanks for another year of life for John; he celebrated his birthday March 7.
