Dear Friends,
In the midst of everything that is happening in Hong Kong, God works in special ways to bring His Word to the people here. About a year ago a non-profit organization in Kowloon was looking for a place to pass out free meals to senior citizens. Concordia Lutheran High School, one of the over 40 Hong Kong Lutheran Synod schools in the area, was happy to help. Thus each Tuesday afternoon over 40 senior citizens came to the school to receive their special meal to take home. The meals were given out at 5 p.m., but the people came as early as 2 p.m. since they did not have anything else to do. The leaders of Concordia Lutheran Church quickly made a plan. Each Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. they began to have a special program for these senior citizens.

The programs consisted of singing Chinese Gospel opera songs, special messages by speakers, question and answer time to review what the speaker said, prayer-time, drums, singing of Christian songs, snacks, exercising, and many other activities. There were always over 30 people who attended these interesting programs. I was happy to have the privilege of working with the dear co-workers of Concordia Lutheran Church to hold one of these programs for this precious fellowship group. Here you see and hear the fellowship group singing “For God So Loved the World…” in a Chinese melody.

When I taught John 3:16, I gave related pictures for the senior citizens to hold up for the group to see. The lady in the first picture is holding a picture of the world which God loves so much. In the next picture the lady in the middle is smiling and holding up a picture of heaven where the city is made of pure gold.  In the picture below that you see a lady holding up a present, for the “gift” of God which is eternal life to all those who believe.

Afterwards, we asked the senior citizens to answer questions about the message which they just heard. The LWML President is here listening to the answer of one of the ladies, while another lady on the right is raising her hand to answer as well.

At the end of the fellowship-time, I gave the senior citizens the Bible verse, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) This verse is printed in Chinese on crosses which many LWML ladies from the USA have cut out from old Christmas and birthday cards. The ladies here really like these pretty crosses and so they hang them up in their homes or use them for bookmarks. A heartfelt thanks to all the LWML ladies who work so hard to supply these crosses.  You can see how these ladies are so carefully reading John 3:16.

Rev. Gene Fung closed the meeting in prayer.

After a half a year of providing a place to give out meals for the Senior citizens, Concordia Lutheran High School was no longer needed for this purpose. The good thing is that all the recipients of these meals live right across the street from the school and church. They were used to coming to the school for their meals. Thus it was a natural thing to start up a Senior Citizen’s Fellowship Group. It now meets on Saturdays from 10:30 to 11:30 and there are from ten to twenty who come regularly. They are from 60 to 80 years old and two of them already believe in Christ. This is such a great opportunity to witness to all these lovely senior citizens.
SPECIAL NOTICE:
Before closing this letter I would like to let you know that at the present time I am planning for my May, 2020 home service trip to the USA. If you would like me to come to your church, please write me before Jan. 1, 2020. It would be best if you could arrange for 5 to 7 days of speaking in your area. That way I can make good use of the time and travel expense. I do so look forward to hearing from you.

May God bless you and yours as we enter into the Christmas Season.
With love,
Carol Lee Halter
