Dear Friends in Christ and Faithful Prayer Partners,
Yesterday we received an update on the Coronavirus in Papua New Guinea from Jennifer Pyakalia, a nurse who grew up on our mission field and now heads up obstetrics for the PNG Health Department. It comes from the PNG Joint Agency Task Force National Control Centre for Covid-19 (see image below).
There has been a significant uptick of Covid infections in the last few days in PNG. There is an appeal for calm and the continuation of mitigation procedures as they have few health care resources to deal with a widespread outbreak. Domestic travel restrictions have been reimplemented. Testing is not widely available and when administered, they must be sent to Brisbane, Australia for processing. As a result there is a significant lag in reporting.
Please keep the people of PNG in your prayers.
Thank you for praying with us.
