For almost two years I’ve been including my father in the prayers of our newsletter. Thanks be to God, who granted us two wonderful years with Dad passed his initial cancer diagnosis. He fell asleep in Christ to await the resurrection early Saturday morning, in bed at home, with my mom by his side and me in the next room. While we grieve, it is not as those who have no hope (1 Thess. 4:13). Visitation with family will be Wednesday afternoon, December 11 and evening in Orleans, Ontario. Funeral service will be Thursday morning, December 12 at 10:30 AM at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Ottawa, Ontario.
Dear members of Ascension shared with me these beautiful words from Luther’s commentary on 1 Corinthians 15: “And the cemetery or burial ground does not indicate a heap of the dead, but a field full of kernels, known as God’s kernels, which will verdantly blossom forth again and grow more beautifully than can be imagined.” This is our hope, in the God who raises the dead in Christ Jesus our Lord.
